Review of I'm Here for the Bath
I'm Here for the Bath by P.E. Rolita is a collection of short stories about acceptance and unconditional love. It presents the end of life's celebration with the help of a home health aide. Also, this non-fiction book illustrates themes such as health care, family life, and death.
Briefly, the 56 chapters of this book focus on the author's journey as a caregiver. P.E. Rolita, a certified nurse assistant, shares his memories from the time when he worked in a nursing home and took care of his patients, each with different conditions. Also, Peter presents some touching stories and offers a glimpse into the last beautiful memories of his patients.
I liked that the author captured a wide range of unusual stories, from strange encounters with different animals to inexplicable miracles. I appreciated that he always offered the context of the visit to the patient he had to take care of and illustrated some details about his condition without boring me with lengthy descriptions. I was amazed that Peter was witness to so many adventures and got so many spiritual gifts from so many loving people, and I loved his intuition in crisis situations like his encounter with a bear.
Another positive aspect of this book was its enjoyable storytelling. P.E. Rolita managed to make me empathize with each of his patients, and the emotional stories he shared made me realize what an important role a caregiver has in the last moments of a person who is nearing the end of life. Also, I appreciated that Peter opened his heart and shared his vulnerabilities during the visits to his patients. For example, I understood his fear of being rejected by those who offered him unconditional love, and I liked that he was truly caring for his patients.
There is no aspect of this book I dislike, so I can only rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It taught me a significant lesson: to forget the fear before the proximity of death and to talk with our loved ones and share our emotions in order to be reconciled with ourselves. I appreciated the authenticity of the stories, and the author's life journey inspired me to be more caring and tolerant. Also, I'm Here for the Bath was professionally edited. I discovered only four closing punctuation errors that did not affect my reading experience.
I recommend this book to fans of short stories, especially those who want to discover the responsibilities of a caregiver. It is perfect for people who want to learn various lessons of tolerance but not for those uninterested in end-of-life care. Also, I'm Here for the Bath is suitable for a large audience because it has minor profanity and no erotic content.
