Review of Destiny In The Wind
Destiny in the Wind by Dr. Amparo Bernal is a beautiful and heartrending autobiography. The author takes us on a journey through the ups and downs of her life. The story began when her father, Pedro, abandoned her mother, who eventually remarried. The author grew up in Colombia and developed an interest in medicine. Disaster struck when her stepfather was killed in an accident, leaving Amparo and her pregnant mother. This forced them to work so hard to make ends meet.
While returning from a family vacation, their plane crashes into the sea, killing every member of the traveling family except Amparo, who somehow managed to stay afloat and swim to relative safety before getting rescued by fishermen. During her recuperation from the accident, her sister's classmate, Samuel, professes his love for her in her vulnerable state, and she accepts his marriage proposal at the tender age of fourteen. She was put through a lot of emotional and physical stress because she was pregnant. What will the pregnant Amparo do in this marriage? How will her life turn out? Would their marriage turn out to be a good or bad decision? Find out in this thrilling and motivating story that everyone must read.
There are many positive aspects to this book. First, I commend the bravery of the author. It must have taken a lot of courage not just to tell a story but to tell her own story. It is a no-brainer that many are very insecure about their lives. I loved the way the story was beautifully written. It felt like I was right there with Amparo in the beautiful settings, Cartagena, Santa Martha, and the others. The book was also written in simple English, which will make it very easy for readers to understand.
I must also point out that there were no vulgar words in this book, and I appreciated that. The fact that I found only a few errors in the book speaks volumes about the careful editing. Another positive aspect of this book is the presence of many educational themes; for instance, I noticed the themes of bravery, persistence, acceptance, responsibility, and many others. I noted especially the theme of bravery because it can be easily seen through the author's life and how she was brave enough to face the challenges that life threw her way, from losing her biological father and stepfather to getting pregnant at such an early age and even having to see herself through university. The theme of hard work can also be seen in how the author kept working hard to give herself a good life without giving up on anything. Regarding the theme of acceptance, this book teaches us that life can throw anything in our way, and we just have to accept it that way and do the best we can to better our lives. It won't always be rosy. However, resilience is always the key.
The book had no negative aspects at all. I can not think of any. Therefore, I rate this beautiful work five out of five stars, and I'll recommend it to people who love motivational books because we all need the motivation to keep us going. People who love memoirs would also enjoy reading the book.
