Review of Blue Collar Cash
Going to college is usually at the forefront of the mind of high school students. College is necessary for many careers. Over the past couple of decades, there has been a cultural push to get more and more students to attend college. Ken Rusk makes the argument that this push has gone too far. College is not for everyone, and too many young people are overlooking blue-collar jobs. In Blue-Collar Cash, Ken Rusk explains how many blue-collar jobs are not only lucrative, but they’re also fulfilling. He explains how he sets and achieves goals despite how unattainable they may seem. He has made a career by achieving goals and figuring things out along the way. He did it all without a degree.
I enjoyed this book. I think the author made some excellent points about the value of a college degree. Many people go deeply into debt for a degree that they may not end up needing or using. It’s a sad reality. I enjoyed how this book also applied to anyone, even if they pursued higher education. Anyone can achieve goals, and everyone should try. I liked how the author broke down goal-setting into manageable pieces. It made me evaluate my goals and truly consider what I wanted out of my life.
I found very few negatives in this book. The author addressed some common reasons that people push for higher education, but I think some facts were glossed over, such as average lifetime earnings. Despite this, I think the book was excellent.
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was a great read and excellent for illuminating possibilities for careers that many people have not considered. It’s inspirational even if you already have a college education. This book was exceptionally well-edited. I only found a single minor error.
I recommend this book to young people who are considering what career they would like to pursue. I also recommend it to families with teenage children. I think this is very eye-opening for people who aren’t sure that college is right for them. Anyone interested in an alternative to a traditional white-collar job should check this book out. Finally, anyone who has a dream that has not yet been achieved should read this book. It’s not strictly about the value of blue-collar work. It’s about making a plan and chasing your dreams. So get out there, read this book, and achieve the life you’ve always wanted!
