Review by Don Pack of In It Together | "beautifully written with challenging but achievable ideas and advice"
In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All is a work of nonfiction about having inner peace while realizing that the real selves of all people everywhere are the same. It is not a road map to find inner peace, nor an instructional study to achieve it. This can be a complicated book for readers who feel like they need to grasp everything the book has to offer. These readers may find themselves reading sentences, paragraphs, and even entire pages over and over. This is great if that is the level of understanding they are seeking. For others, like myself, the book can be a relaxing and rewarding experience just by casually reading through it and gleaning from it what is helpful without necessarily trying to master any of the concepts presented. But what makes the book special is that no matter what levels of motivation or seriousness readers may have toward the book, all can benefit in one way or another. While few will ever fully have true inner peace, most will find themselves observing their own lives and the lives of others much differently than they had prior to reading the book.
From the beginning, the author, Eckhart Aurelius Hughes, makes it clear that there are no religious or political agendas, and that he is not out to convert anyone to any belief system. Hughes sticks to this throughout the book and this is what I liked most about reading it. Not once did I feel like he was trying to change how I live my life, nor did I feel like I would be a failure if I did not heed his recommendations.
What I did not like about the book was what seemed like a slow start getting to the point. However, as I continued to read, I realized that repetition of the basics was foundationally necessary toward a better understanding of the rest of the book.
I rate this book five out of five stars. It is well edited and beautifully written with challenging but achievable ideas and advice.
Although there is no promise that anyone will have inner peace by reading this book, the concepts presented do help put things in a better perspective. Therefore, I do recommend In It Together to anyone struggling with the cards of life they are dealt with and to those burdened with worry about the past or anxiety toward the future. It is not recommended to those looking for an easy path with specific instructions on how to make their lives a rose garden.
