In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes is one of the few books that hit home for me. The topic of human beings uniting through our struggles is very close to my heart, and I might be slightly biased when I say that it is one of the best books I have read this year. You don't have to take my word for it, but if you read the book, you will definitely take away something valuable from it.

The author highlights some problems and vices right from the beginning, but one understands that this is not meant to make the readers feel guilty. The author is aiming to shine light on deeper concepts and problems. Unlike a lot of pseudo-spiritual books, this book does not negate worldly struggles. In fact, Hughes recognises and acknowledges those struggles, but he also takes it a step further. You may tend to think that all your problems will be over, and you will finally be happy once you get that promotion, that job, that perfect partner, that house, and yet, you can have all of that and still be struggling. Hughes recognises that struggle is basically a constant in all of our lives. After reading the book, you may be able to connect with not just human beings but other living beings as well. One may even begin to feel a connection with plants and animals as well, and for me, that's part of a real spiritual awakening.

Let us begin with the positives regarding the book. My favourite thing about the book was the narration, which makes it feel like the author is personally speaking to me. As Hughes says in his introduction to the book, this is not a political book. He isn't trying to create a huge political upheaval. But he definitely creates a shift inside one's soul through his words. I believe that the best adjectives to describe the book are “enlightening” and “eye-opening.” It is an informative guide that urges you to look deep within yourself. The author urges us to look at others as humans and souls rather than through the tainted lens of class, gender, race, and so on and so forth. We often tend to dismiss others' problems and amplify our own, but In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All encourages us to look beyond and within.

I did not find any mention-worthy negatives in the book. I'll be honest, I was worried that the book might be too philosophical for me to enjoy, but that wasn't the case at all. I enjoyed the book thoroughly. The book is well-edited, and I couldn't find any grammatical errors. However, the book could have been a little more fast-paced, but that's just my personal preference.

I will give this book a rating of a perfect 4 out of 4 stars. I cannot think of a single negative point which would warrant a deduction of a star. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. If you are looking for a book that will encourage you to go inwards and come from a place of love, then this book is perfect for you.
