Are you a woman? Do you aim to improve your health? Then read Taking Care of You: The Empowered Woman's Guide to Better Health by Mary I. O'Connor, MD and Kanwal L. Haq, MS. This is an amazing book that seeks to empower women to get a better understanding of their health and how to get involved in making decisions about their health since, in reality, women have not always been factored into the universal health care schema.

Dr. O’Connor is co-founder and Chief Medical Officer at Vori Health while Kanwal is a medical anthropologist passionate about creating more connected, informed and equitable systems of care. The authors started by stating the purpose for writing the book and how to use it, and went further to define the term "women’s health". This book is divided into three major parts. Part 1 is titled "Women and the current health landscape". It discusses the importance of social determinants of health (SDOH), common barriers and services that a clinician may provide. It also talks about the challenges faced by women of color. Part 2 discusses the common disease conditions affecting women. Part 3 is titled "Taking Care of You” and discusses other relevant health issues.

I enjoyed reading every page of this book. There is a lot of vital information I was exposed to in this book. An example of such is evaluating the authenticity of information gotten online and determining who is hosting the information online. I also discovered steps for finding the best clinician for me. I also got to learn about several medical conditions and how to prevent them. I admire the authors' writing style. I could identify with the lessons. Another feature I love about this book is the use of diagrams, images and illustrations throughout. These images and illustrations made it easy to comprehend the book. Medical books are sometimes difficult to understand for laymen. However, this book is an exception. The authors made use of straightforward words. I would also like to state that I did not notice any typographical or grammatical errors while reading this book. It was thoroughly proofread and edited.

There is nothing about this book that I dislike. The information and depth of research done in this book are worthy of commendation.

Taking Care of You: The Empowered Woman's Guide to Better Health by Mary I. O'Connor, MD and Kanwal L. Haq is an educational book. I gained a lot of medical information. I am delighted to have read this book at this time. As a result, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to every woman that seeks to improve their health. This book would also be useful to anyone interested in learning about the common chronic conditions in women.
