Review of Backbone
Every family is a world unto itself. There are so many untold stories behind the doors; unnoticed hurt, anxiety, good times, memories, and pain that may never heal. Backboneby S.Lynn is a true-life story about the events of her life and her family while growing up. She was the third child of a toxic marriage that produced three children. She grew up with a father who was always drunk and constantly abused her mother, siblings, and herself. In this book, she recounts her early family life, her mother's experiences, and how those experiences helped her choose a life partner and live her life.
I enjoyed reading this book and liked how the author wrote her story. Her story is another example of an abusive marriage's effects on the lives of the children and the abused spouse. The pain from this affair is life-long and negatively affects the lives of the abused. In this book, the author recounts how seeing what her father did to her mother affected her. Reading about what her mother had to endure at the hands of her mother brought chills to my spine. Although I don't encourage divorce in marriages, I believe no woman or man should have their life threatened in a relationship. She was lucky to survive hers, but many women have died while enduring this, and many will never heal from their own experiences. The author advised women facing similar situations, and I agree with her.
I also liked how the author acknowledged those who helped her build her self-esteem and choose a different path. I enjoyed reading the stories of these wonderful people and the bond between them before their deaths. Experience, they say, is the best teacher. Indeed, there is a lot to learn in this book.
I disliked nothing about this book, although the author used some words to describe her father that a child shouldn't use to portray her father. I understand that the author used the words to express how pained and hurt she is. I had a good time reading this book, and there was no reason for me to dislike it.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is well deserving of it. The book was exceptionally well-edited. The language is clear and understandable, and most importantly, the book is short but engaging. There is no reason to rate this book less than I did.
I recommend this book to young adults who are not married. This book is a reminder that marriage goes beyond love at first sight. Their choice will determine if their child will bless them or not. Also, single parents or divorcees will find this book helpful in boosting their courage and fighting for what they believe in. Marriage counsellors and readers of good books will also enjoy reading this book.

Exactly what I had in mind Ambrose. You just spoke my mind. Wonderful job with the review. Well done.Ambrose John wrote: ↑16 Oct 2022, 16:04 Every family truly has what they are dealing with. Lynn has her fare share of this. It's a great lesson to learn from the life of Lynn as we journey through her life.
