Review of WINX
In life, we face many situations requiring us to make decisions. Some may be faster on the spot, and some will take time to think and think. Some will result in a wrong decision, while others will be good. A good decision depends on how you see the problem. Also, decision-making can be personal or organizational. These two scenarios require different factors to be considered, which may greatly depend on the demography of the impact.
Putting all of these together, Irma Parone wrote this book, WINX, to educate leaders of organizations and businesses on strategies to ensure a winning decision-making process. According to the author, Winning Exponentially (WINX) is a process that considers the three stakeholders of your business so that your decision is all-encompassing and balanced. It is a problem-solving model aimed at improving your organizational decision-making process. The author explained eight steps to ensure a winning solution that will benefit the trio (company, employees, and customers). These steps are applicable in every situation, whether you want to decide your personal life or you want to decide on work. However, the primary target audience is the decision-makers in the business world.
Time-to-time, problems arise at work, and how we see and define them will determine how they will be solved. This is why Irma emphasized the problem statement, which is the first step of the eight steps of the WINX strategy. In this step, the author explained how you could write your problem statement to reflect the actual cause of the problem. Without identifying the actual cause of the problem, we might not arrive at a lasting solution. She explained how to ask the right question that will lead us to write the correct problem statement, which is the sole factor in arriving at a lasting solution.
Another that has the exact weight is the problem-solving step. Irma highlighted the different strategies you can employ to solve a problem. In this step, she highlights the difference between brainstorming and brainwriting. This is my first time learning about brainwriting. Do you want to learn how to brain write? Do you want to know how the two processes affect your decision-making? Then pick this book up and read it. You will enjoy it.
The way you present your solutions to decision-makers is essential to the process. Considering that many people miss out on this step even if the solutions are top-notch, Irma highlighted 13 tips to ensure you present the solutions clearly and neatly. She also gives eight ways to identify ideal solutions from a pool of different ideas that have been collated. The 6-5-3 method is my favorite.
Irma did an excellent job of writing this short piece. The writing style is flawless as she carries readers along in her explanations. She ensures to garnish her explanations with true-life stories, which make the steps practicable and relatable. I enjoyed these stories as they helped drive home the points and ensure optimum understanding. The author also starts each step with a quote by renowned people like Albert Einstein, Jamie Diamond, Napoleon Bonaparte, Eleanor Roosevelt, and others. She ensures that readers are carried along with the introduction of the Practice Here part. She also made available some downloadable links, which will help readers track their progress. I found this book helpful because I have a manuscript I am developing on decision-making. This book helped me re-validate my points and strategy.
There is nothing to dislike about this book. The book is flawlessly edited with no errors. It is well-formatted, and the message was delivered accurately and without ambiguity. Therefore, I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to CEOs, industry decision-makers, supervisors, workers, and customers. It will help them make decisions that will carry everyone along and ensure win-win situations at all times.
