Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a financial self-help book about the importance of planning for retirement. The concept stems from the fact that although people are living longer now, ironically, they are less prepared for retirement. The book seeks to help people plan ahead, restart their careers and enjoy their lives along the way.
E. Alan Fleischauer is an award-winning author and highly regarded financial management professional with several books under his belt. His many years of experience as a financial expert and a fiduciary comes to play in this informative book about planning ahead and working in a job you love. The idea is that you can reconfigure your life at any stage with carefully laid out plans and strategies that are guaranteed to work and provide you with the best life possible.
I like how the author is straightforward with his points in this book. His writing style is easy and fluid, and the chapters are not long and tedious. He breaks down facts with comprehensive and concise words that are easy for anyone to understand. Topics like social security, investments, income protection, insurance etc., are explained in simple terms that are easy to grasp and assimilate. There are also examples- hypothetical and real-life- used to buttress the points stated in the book.
I also love the author’s sense of humour which is evident throughout the book. The chapters are punctuated with jokes and puns, which helps to take off the edge of talking about otherwise boring financial matters. One of my favourites is this:
“Who handles the financial matters in a monastery? That’s nun of your business”.
This joke left me in stitches.
However, I have a couple of issues with the book. Firstly, it is mainly suitable for citizens of the United States of America. I believe this might limit the number of readers interested in the book. Having said this, I must say I did learn a lot from the book, even though I’m not an American citizen. I also found three errors which could have been easily corrected.
Overall I would rate it 3 out of 4 stars only because of the errors I encountered. I believe it could do with another round of editing. The author used other words in place of profanity, so I would say it’s devoid of strong language and erotic scenes. I would recommend it to readers of all ages, especially Americans, who can grasp the concept of financial matters. Also, anyone looking to reconfigure their lives and start another career in midlife could use this book as a starting point.
