Self-belief is the only way toward self-fulfillment. That is the crux of the novel The Cult Next Door by Elizabeth R. Burchard, Judith L. Carlone. The book tells the story of a group of people being subjugated to a life of self-loathing under the pretext of betterment. The glimmer of a hopeful future is what leads them away from a bright present. The authors portray the struggles of the group of women in a heart-wrenching manner. The false hopes given to them are all detrimental to their growth in life. This is highlighted by key incidents happening in the lives of all characters.

The biggest strength of the book is the way the emotions of the protagonist are described. The intensity of emotions has been depicted in a captivating manner. The book portrays the shame and disgust felt by the protagonist in a way that is sure to strike a chord with the readers. The side characters are also shown to be suffering from the tragedy of false hopes of a brighter future. The façade of spiritual energy is what helps the antagonist of the book in forming a cult. His actions have been shown in a manner that would help the theme of the book act as a life lesson for the readers.

I genuinely couldn’t find a single negative thing about the book. The book has been phenomenally edited. The authors make sure that the writing style is gripping and engaging. The anecdotes shared by the authors feel realistic at all times. There is a sense of relatability that is vital for the reading experience in this genre. The book moves forward at a brisk pace. The unfortunate events that take place in the name of spiritual enlightenment are all described vividly. The readers will find many life lessons to imbibe from this book.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Every aspect of the book has been executed perfectly. The protagonist is relatable and layered. The writing style gets you hooked from the very beginning. The relations between the characters are explored amazingly. Even the antagonist has been depicted to be a layered character.

I recommend it to everyone who has felt even a tiny bit curious about the workings of a cult. This book will expand your horizons in unimaginable ways. The authors have created a gripping world in the form of this magnificent book. Go grab your copy and enter this amazing world.
