Review of From Drift to SHIFT
From Drift to SHIFT is a non-fiction book written by the career and life coach, Jody B. Miller. The book consists of various stories from different people. These people experienced diverse drifts and shifts in their lives. The author seeks to assist the readers in their life shifts. She says that the book may help a lot of people in finding true happiness in their lives and daily activities. The book provides the informative, insightful and inspiring strategies that everyone needs to find the gist, contentment and happiness in life and at work. The author advises the reader to live a joyous life regardless of the existing predicament. She also explains that everyone should believe in him/herself, even if it means faking it until that belief is felt inside.
The experiences that the author has shared in this book cover the childhood experiences of some featured people. The experiences of other people encompass health, work life, accidents, personal choices and spiritual meditation. The book explains the importance of chasing our dreams, respecting our planet and following our hearts regardless of every opposition that shows up. In addition, the book clarifies the importance of not giving up. Ups and downs are part of life. Therefore, everyone should be prepared. Furthermore, the book enlightens the readers on why everyone needs a shift, when to shift, how to shift and what comes next after the shift.
Honestly, I have enjoyed reading this book. There are interesting stories featured in it. The featured stories cover almost all virtues of life. I have learned about other beliefs that exist in some countries. The Hindu and Buddhist deities have been clearly explained. This is my first time learning about these. The author has also used Bible stories to explain some points. The way she has explained the religious aspects does not offend people of other religions. At the end of every chapter, the author has included the takeaway points before proceeding to the next chapter. She has explained the meanings of the words that have been used. At the end of the book, she provided the appendix that contains detailed information on things that have not been fully explained in the chapters.
I like the style that the author used in writing this book. She divided it into 4 parts and 8 chapters. This made it easy for me to follow the story. I like the design of the book from the cover. I also like the simplicity of the language used and the clarity of the book. The infographics embedded in the book to express some points are just good. This made it feel more real. The book came to me at the right time. I needed to make some tough decisions about my life in a certain situation. This book gave me direction as to when and how I should do what I planned to do. I believe most people will find it appealing. I did not find anything displeasing in this book.
I did not find any serious errors in this book. I found very few minor errors. It is well-written and professionally edited. Therefore, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. This is a must-read book for everyone facing serious challenges in life. The experiences from other people may inspire you and help you to focus on a better future. For example, if you lost your job and don’t know what to do, this book may provide you with a better direction.
