Review of Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless
There’s a good chance that you’ve heard of ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’. If you haven’t, here’s a list of what its book series have accomplished: sold half a billion books, had 57 different books to be on The New York Times bestseller list, and hold a Guinness World’s Record for having 7 books on The New York Times bestseller list at the same time.
Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless is a biography of one of Chicken Soup for the Soul’s co-author. It tells us the story of Mark’s success, how he achieved it, and the struggles behind it. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” Mark’s success is built on the failures he experienced before. He had faced bankruptcy before finding his career destiny, got rejected 144 times by publishers before having the most successful nonfiction books, and got divorced before marrying his soulmate. In this inspiring book, we learn how Mark used his failures to propel to his eventual success.
Mitzi Perdue was able to make this book unique by bringing some elements of self-help books into it. At the end of every chapter, there is a “Learn from Mark” section. In this section, Mitzi kindly summarized the principles that we can use to build our future in bullet points. This makes it easy to understand and to go back when we forget them. We might not have raised the equivalent of today’s $12,500 at the tender age of 9, but we can follow the basic principles that allow him to do so.
Another thing I like about this book is how the author shares some of her enlightened insights, which stem from her noteworthy background. Mitzi’s father is the co-founder of the Sheraton Hotel Chain, additionally, her husband developed his father-and-son company into one of the top US poultry companies. This provides her with a close-up observation of the habits of successful people, allowing her to discover similar habits that she found in Mark and from what she knows of her father and husband, which she then shares in this book.
The only negative of this book is that there are quite a few errors. While most of them are minor punctuation errors, there are also some more major ones. There is an instance of a whole paragraph being repeated, and in another instance, a sentence is not complete.
Overall, I enjoy reading this book and learning various lessons from it. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The negative mentioned above is not enough to impede my satisfaction. I would recommend this book to people who love to hear inspirational success stories. In addition, readers of biography and self-help books would also love this book.

Hansen's storytelling is both compelling and relatable, making it easy for readers to connect with his experiences. He doesn't shy away from discussing the challenges he faced, including financial hardships and personal setbacks. However, what sets "Relentless" apart is Hansen's unwavering commitment to pushing forward despite these challenges.
