Review of Hinduism
According to research, Hinduism is the world’s oldest religion. The origin of Hinduism belongs to India. It grew out of the emergence and union of many cultures and religions. I must say, the Hindus have a very thoughtful approach to a lot of things that they consider significant.
This book gives readers a closer understanding of the Hindu religion. The ancient scriptures of the Hindu religion, The Vedas, are recognized as the earliest documented literature of mankind. It is also believed that Hindu mathematics was one of the earliest and most advanced science. In ancient times, animal sacrifices were common. They see animals as beings that have a divine connection with their ancestors. The highest type of sacrifice performed was the special ritual sacrifice of a horse (advamedha), which was conducted by the king to show his power and authority. There are a lot more interesting facts to find out in this book.
The book cover and title suit its content quite well. It would draw the attention of any reader. This book contains quite a lot of information about the Hindu religion, its scriptures, hymns, gods, rituals, and even philosophical codes. I loved how descriptive this book was. The author explained everything in detail to make this book readable and easy to understand. The chapter I enjoyed most was the one that talked about the Hindu Trinity (Trimurti), which consists of the Trinity of Hindu Gods: Lord of Creation, Brahma; Lord of Preservation, Vishnu; and Lord of Dissolution, Shiva. This book majorly talks about Hinduism but also talks at length about other religions that spring from Hinduism, including Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. The quotes contained in this book were very inspiring. The author made sure to state where they were adopted from.
I learned a lot of interesting facts about the Hindu scriptures. For instance, the scriptures were originally written on dried palm leaves because no paper was available. I would like to state that this book was exceptionally well-edited as I found no errors in it. Apart from the fact that I found this book a bit lengthy, there was nothing I disliked about it. Therefore, I rate Hinduism: An Evolutionary Religion by Dr. Hiro G. Badlani 4 out of 4 stars.
No religion is the sole way to God. None is right or wrong either. They are simply different. What brings them together is the belief that a supreme God exists. I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning or discovering more about the Hindu religion.
