The Love, Heartache, and Devotion of a Mom and Grandma is a very insightful book on the first hand experience of a family that is affected by addiction. Darcie Joy Miller has written about her journey of dealing with her daughter’s trauma and resulting addiction.

Darcie gives us details of the deplorable living conditions of her grandchildren while living with their addict mother and her friends. It’s hard to believe that people can live this way. The devoted mother and grandmother tried desperately to help all of those whom she loves.

While I enjoyed the book very much, I was a little distracted by the grammatical errors at times. I feel that the author could have used a better editor to help in this area. Despite the errors, she did a wonderful job writing this book and helping the reader understand her feelings and the details of her situation.

Overall, I gave this book a 4 out of 4 because the content was interesting and easy to read. I appreciate the perspective of a grandmother and mother in a family with addiction. I feel that Darcie did everything a loving family member would do. She went above and beyond for her family whom she clearly cherishes more than anything else.
