In Her Elements: Sea Salt, Surrender, and A Journey to a Whole Life by Selina Delangre is Selina's story of how she got into the business of sea salt and the difficulties she encountered while taking care of her son, Dominic, who was born with cerebral palsy and seizures. Selina was 19 years old when she met her future father-in-law, Jacques. He explained to her that we need sea salt instead of regular salt in our diets because our plasma has the same organic makeup as the ocean. Examples of common elements in the ocean and plasma are sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, and calcium; these elements support body functions. This book entails facts about sea salt manufacturing and how Selina took a small mail-order business and turned it into a global enterprise. So, how does Dominic play a role in her story? You will have to read this fascinating book to discover what Selina learned from her incredible son, who did not develop past three months of age.

As I started reading this book, I was skeptical because of the discussion involving the ocean and plasma elements. I thought I would need a background in biology or chemistry to understand it. However, Selina did a magnificent job explaining the properties of table salt and sea salt in layman's terms that were easy to understand. I enjoyed reading about the macrobiotic lifestyle that helps eliminate migraines and other ailments. I was surprised at the number of health benefits that sea salt provides to support body functions. Selina has provided several links to websites where you can see recordings of Jacques' bread baking classes, the 72-elemental sea salt analysis, sea salt sources, and obtain The Sea Salt Cookbook. Selina makes running a successful business sound simple as long as you are adaptable, patient, and make sure your supply meets the demand for your product. I like the thought-provoking quotes provided throughout the book. My favorite was "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change" by Charles Darwin. Throughout the book, there are many pictures of her family and other people who influenced her. There is also a copy of the flier that was posted when her mentor, Jim Cockman, disappeared.

This book has no negative aspects. It is a well-written and exceptionally well-edited book. The author does a fantastic job moving between life events and her discussion of sea salt.

I am happy to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I have no reason to deduct any stars from this enjoyable book.

I recommend this book to readers interested in sea salt manufacturing or the benefits sea salt provides to your health. If you are interested in reading about a special needs child, this book is for you. The author has based her life on her faith and belief in God. If religious content bothers you, you may want to avoid this book.
