Review of The Struggle Within
Pleasing everyone is an act we all try to display at our own expense. By this, we do not know how to react when they come at us negatively. The book The Struggle Within by Abraham Harris III highlights the central importance of self-worth, internal peace, and happiness. By telling his life story, he talked about how he was bullied in elementary school, betrayed by men of God, and practically lost everything in life. How then did he survive?
The Struggle Within by Abraham Harris talks about his life and times. He was the last of 5 children born into a Christian family. During his days in elementary school, being a black kid, he suffered discrimination and was bullied both by his teachers and schoolmates. His dad was strict, and he couldn’t say anything to him, and at the same time, he still wanted and struggled to do what would make them his friends. Moving out of Arizona and going to a new school, qualities that made him discriminated against in his old school were cherished in his new school, and all seemed well, but how long in his life did this happiness last? How many challenges did he struggle with within him? Find out in this educative and inspirational book.
In this world, social media has made everyone feel that if you are not doing a particular thing in a certain way, you are not doing enough. This book is quite timely. We all live our life trying to please society instead of pleasing ourselves and God. This book has educated me on the importance of self-love, self-worth, living according to God's purpose for us, and having it in mind that you can never please everyone in this life but yourself because you are your priority. The book is highly educative and well-edited. There was no form of grammatical error, and it was straight to the point.
For the negative aspect of this book, I came across the phrase that stated, “will be mentioned later in the book,” and as such, no such information was ever stated. This singular act may leave a wrong impression on the reader's mind about the author. Nonetheless, this did not hinder the message from being passed across.
Therefore, I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. As the writer, despite the negative point, still successfully passed out his message. This book will effectively guide you into a path of self-confidence, self-awareness, and internal security. I recommend this book to those Christians and individuals struggling within with doubt, fear, and negative images of their self-worth.
