Self-Care: Let's Start the Conversation was written by Robert Allen. It is a non-fiction book that talks about self-care and ways we can care for and help ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally, or spiritually. It also gives a detailed explanation of why we need to take care of ourselves and our health.

We all pass through stress and problems in our families, workplaces, and relationships. Going through stress without giving time to our bodies can lead to different health issues. It can be a mental, physical or emotional issue. We have this book, Self-Care: Let's Start the Conversation, where the author explains critical areas where our stress could be coming from and how it affects us. An example is where the author listed out different types of mental health, one of which is post-traumatic stress disorder (P.T.S.D). This happens more to women than men because women are most likely victims of sexual abuse. When they experience this disorder and do nothing about it, it might begin to take control of their body. To overcome any form of problem in our health, we need to find the cause and tackle it immediately before it worsens.

What I love most about this book is that it provides ways we can take care of ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Some books show you the problem but do not show how to deal with the problems. When I first saw it, I thought it was about caring for our body to prevent acne. But after reading this book, I realized that what we all face today can affect us internally and externally.

I love the fact that this book is very educational. It also explains some coping skills that we can use in any situation. It was intriguing that the author highlighted some of the negative coping skills most people use when dealing with their problems and why they are inappropriate. Not only did the author list some negative skills that could affect us, but he also pinpointed some positive coping skills that could be of help to us. Robert Allen ensured that he included his experiences to help the reader relate with his discussions.

I found nothing displeasing about this book. It was well arranged. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I noticed instances where some words were incorrectly spelled. I wish the author would look at those lists. But I still feel the book was professionally edited. I will recommend this book to those looking for effective strategies to deal with stress internally and externally.

We tend to forget that our health(physical, emotional spiritual) is our wealth. Unfortunately, we don't have spare parts, we must, therefore, take care of ourselves by keeping stress at bay. Awesome review of an insightful book!
