Review of Sitting in Hemingway's Chair

Sitting in Hemingway's Chair: A Biography by Jim O’Kon is a non-fiction book written to eulogize the life, literary skills, and adventures of one of America's renowned writers, Ernest Hemingway. Jim, a young avid reader, discovers a Hemingway book in his quest to read more books for the summer. The captivating writing style in the book draws Jim deeper into the literary world, and the author becomes his hero. His skill as an athlete in his high school team presents him to meet with his hero in Cuba. Jim takes the path to unravel the mystery behind the renowned author’s writing skills and relive his adventure experiences. This biography takes the reader through a summarised account of events in Hemingway's life. The author also shares an important aspect of Ernest Hemingway’s story; the root cause of the medical condition he suffered.
Before reading this book, I knew quite a few facts about Ernest Hemingway from one of his books, The Old Man and the Sea. This book offered more insights into the book and other fascinating literary collections. Reading this book, I was intrigued by the author’s descriptive skills, especially when he described some of Hemingway’s adventures like the bullfighting in Spain, countless fishing trips, and the Africa-Safari adventure in Kenya. They explicitly explained that a reader can picture the scenes. Also, I found the medical expository on the disease Hemingway suffered quite educating. It is rare to come across a discourse on medical science while reading a book on literature. I enjoyed reading about the character of Ernest Hemingway. It was a puzzle to me how he survived his major car accidents, his ideas about marriage and divorce. The author presents this book in an entertaining and educational manner, so it will serve as a guide to readers who want to learn more about this American writer.
There is nothing I find negative about this book. The author did justice to his theme. He filled the reader with awe and respect for the renowned and skilled writer.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This book is a great piece. But my rating is because I found a lot of errors in this book. Also, I found the author’s use of punctuation marks misused most of the time. Consequently, this book was not professionally edited.
This book will appeal to lovers and readers of Ernest Hemingway’s writings. It is also recommended to those who enjoy literary and entertaining books like this one.
