For most of us, family plays a major role in our lives. Our parents nurture us from our birth. Our siblings shape our lives with their camaraderie. Most of us are fortunate to be the apple of our father's eyes and the dimple of our mother's smile. However, what happens when a loved one hurts us in an unimaginable manner? How do we cope then?

In An Innocent Girl: A Memoir, Christine Temlett chronicles the story of her life. Christine was the youngest daughter of Jack and Ruby. Surrounded by her older brothers and friends, she had an idyllic life in a rustic village in Cornwall. However, things took an unexpected turn when her mother had a stroke. Against all expectations, one of her loved ones started abusing her in a despicable manner. She was threatened to keep quiet.

Did Christine escape the clutches of her abuser? If so, then how? Was she finally able to break free and live a life of happiness? Did she ever find love?

The best part about An Innocent Girl: A Memoir is its simplicity. Temlett's straightforward writing style touches the reader's heart. Though the book deals with a dark subject like abuse, there is an innocent vibe about it. This is my favorite aspect. We explore the vibrant English countryside of the 50s and 60s along with the author. We even get to experience the delights of London through Christine's innocent perspective. The novelties of television and radio bring us as much wonderment as Christine.

Temlett depicts the horrors of her abuse in plain language. She does not embellish the details. As a result, we are able to empathize with her. This truly takes courage. I applaud the author for this.

The book is written in British English. Hence, readers should keep it in mind before reading it. There were a few errors. This was the only shortcoming. A round of editing and proofreading would easily fix this.

Keeping in mind the pros and cons, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I recommend this treatise to anyone interested in memoirs or inspirational stories. Also, anyone who likes reading about coming of age stories would love this book. People who do not like to read about abuse should think twice before opting to read the book.

An Innocent Girl: A Memoir is a story of courage and determination. It portrays that anyone can escape the clutches of their past. It gives us hope to live life to its fullest.

In times like these, where more and more abuse stories are coming to light, people would definitely like to read about someone who was able to come out of such a trauma. Love the review.

A feel family are important part of life, and innocent people believe in family structure. I really feel the review, the way it has put down all the points. Being family man is awesome.

It's a pity to be abused by a sibling, very painful what she went through. I hope she broke free, so she could start living. Good review
