The book The Average Joe’s Guide to Success by R. C. Farrington provides several insights that could be used as a guide on how to lead a successful life. At the very beginning of the book, R. C. Farrington informs his readers that he is an average Joe too and he provides his personal life experiences to prove it. He worked hard to succeed and it didn’t come easy. With this, he sets the stage to walk through several steps that could be taken by an average person to be successful.

The author, R. C. Farrington instigates us to visualize ourselves in different scenarios where we can grab opportunities to be successful. He frequently reminds us throughout the book that success doesn’t come easy and that it needs to be earned through working harder and smarter. He never indicates that obtaining success is impossible. Attaining success is achievable if we stay motivated and strive towards it. He provides personal stories to match the key points he is stating in each chapter. Each chapter has a notes section at the end to jot down any thoughts that could have come up while reading the chapters. He talks about identifying our good attributes and putting them to our best use.

There was nothing negative about the book. It would have been nice to have some steps or tactics that could be used to achieve some of the key points in addition to the personal experience stories.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because R. C. Farrington provides tips to do better. He motivates and encourages throughout the book. At the same time, he reminds us that it is not easy to be an overachiever. It requires a lot of hard and smart work. He acknowledges that it is a struggle to succeed as an average person and we need to keep on pushing on. He encourages his readers to think out of the box. He provides great personal stories to help correlate the key point and our own personal path to success.

The book provides good insights on how to be successful and is recommended for anyone who needs to up their game at any job. R. C. Farrington doesn’t shy away from providing personal failure stories that ultimately were his stepping blocks to success. He reminds us that we need to take responsibility and ownership for our actions to experience success.

Overall, this book is an easy read and can be used as a reminder of how we can do better at anything we do.
