Fowlkes sounds like he went through a lot and a black man trying to succeed, especially as one who grew up in the Civil Rights era. I'm glad he doesn't just tell his story in this book but also uses it to encourage others to find their grit and push forward. For a book that narrates the story of a black man's face off with racism, though, I'm kind of confused as to why the book cover depicts a white man in troubled waters, instead of a black man...

As a person who came from a poor background and failed their education, I can say that it was circumstances and life choices that lead me to my lack of success. Sometimes, what we think is oppression is just life not being fair. It sounds like an insightful read though.

Racism is always a sad topic to read about but also a necessary one. I may not have the emltional capacity to read it through to the end but thank you for such an informative review

Racism has been a very sensitive topic for the longest time. It is good to know that despite facing racism and being from a poor background, Nelson was determined to achieve his dreams.

I like how Nelson used his background to motivate the readers. I'm not a fun of non- fictions except for history so I think the review is just enough for me.

Racism should be something of the past. It's so bad to see that some people still can't have a decent job just because some companies will even consider a certain race over qualification.

Why does color continue to affect how people perceive others? I still believe in the Martin Luther dream, though. I hope to see it fulfilled in my lifetime.

The book cover screams adversity. This is good for motivating and inspiring. No matter the challenges, if we keep pushing we can succeed. Thanks.

This book reminds me of Gifted Hands, a story about a black neurosurgeon named Ben Carson. The sample revealed an interesting detail about the author's background. May it inspire people who faced a similar adversity to pursue their dreams and goals in life.

I have come across many books which are based on racism and how it was hard for people to achieve the heights they always desired back in the day. Still, we encounter racism. I loved the description of the book and the fact that you stated that all the failures of the author were not just because of racism. Thanks for your review.

I get pissed off whenever I hear racism is still been practiced in some parts of the world. Nelson J. Fowlkes must have passed through a lot. His resilence to succeed and his successes is indeed an inspiring one. Congratulations on being the book of the day.

I think the most powerful enemy we are fighting in this world is the enemy of unity, we all originates from the same ancestor and I don't see the need for racism.. very good book to change the world
