It is beyond shameful that racism is still present in this century, considering how much as a species and society we have evolved. Learning our history from both perspectives, meaning from the point of view of those who make it and those who are denied that opportunity, is extremely important if we are to ever evolve beyond this state. This book seems to present exactly the perspective of the oppressed the non-oppressed need to experience in order to educate themselves.
Thank you for this great review!

I felt a little connected to everything he had to go through. It really was inspiring and touching. I learned a lot about how it was back in those days. You can actually understand the racism, discrimination which had to be tough. Really enjoyed this review.

Good review indeed I like the part where it says his poor background coupled with his skin color in era where blacks were still seen as lesser humans poses significant barriers to achieving his dreams. It sounds like an educational non fiction book on how to be successful in adversity and overcoming racial abuse.

A book about how someone overcomes his battles, with the help of a little religion too. Not my genre, but a solid review of the book nonetheless.

I’m not sure this is for me. I agree with the fact that in tHe 40’s and 50’s racism was more blatant and I hope that the discrimination that Mr. Knowles felt in every area of his life is less.

Political history is honestly the last thing I would want to read right now. And being an atheist, faith doesn't resonate with me either. So I don't think this is the book for me.

And it is slightly strange that the man on the cover is white. I wouldn't realise racism would be one of the main issues covered by looking at the book. From the name and cover, I'd just assume it is a self - help book.

It seems like an inspiring book about overcoming obstacles. I’m also from TN, so I may be able to relate to some of the cultural background.

"Overcoming Adversity"
You see,a book like this should be reading by everyone who know what is life is,cause we live in the world that destroys by the racism.
According to me i don't see the reason why somebody practices the racism, cause we live in a world where we look like each other,so why you think you are superior than me.
Cause you feel i feel, you bleed i bleed, you cry i cry,you live i live and one day we will die,so where is the different between us.
Accordimg to me,someone who pratices the racism,it's just crazy.
I thank the author for this beautiful book.
Formidable review,thank you.

Racism is a problem that has plagued this world for a long time and this is a great review and i strongly agree that even if racism is bad it cannot be labelled as the only cause of failures in blacks though it has a great role to play. great review.

An amazing self-help book "Overcoming Adversity" by Nelson J Fowlkes, which highlights the effects of racism, adversity, and the power of faith in achieving one's dreams. It appears that this book is an inspirational read.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

This book is motivating and educating. Racism is something because of which people were discriminated and suffered. Nice review.

Sometimes we all need a little bit of motivation to keep on moving and it sounds like Fowlkes capitalizes on his past to delivery just this to his readers.

Racialism is seen everywhere even in this modern society. And many people suffer every day. I hope this book enables them to confront the situation. Terrific job on the review.
