An inspirational and motivating guide, The Average Joe's Guide to Success by R. C. Farrington, does an exceptional job of explaining the path to obtaining success in your life and career. Reading this book should be mandatory for all entering the employment arena. And those that feel that they are stuck at dead ends and drowning in puddles should endeavor to heed the advice provided within the pages. The progression of the chapters builds nicely upon the previous chapter throughout the book. The language simple enough for anyone to read allows readers to digest each chapter at their own pace. The unique page added at the end of each chapter for jotting down notes enables the reader to highlight and preserve critical points of interest. "To me, creativity is taking an idea the came from imagination and bringing it to life." The author impresses the importance of being creative and of creativity's place in the business world. With explanations for the building blocks towards any successful endeavor, the reader feels the motivation to face any challenges ahead.
One of the book's good points, I feel explanations for each of the positive attributes. These explanations help the reader better understand the winning personalities that successful people have in business. Thereby providing a trait for the reader to adopt and nurture towards a successful life. An example of a positive quality "A good listener is always much better that a good talker." R. C. Farrington explains why this attribute is beneficial to people.
While the list of negative attributes can be self-explanatory to most people, there is a fine line between the positive side of the trait and the negative. Although, the lack of explanations for negative attributes makes the reader question where a person crosses the line between positive and negative. For instance, at what point does taking the initiative turn into impulsivity, or does delegate turn into bossiness?
I rate this book four out of four stars. The organization and the professionally edited content made this a pleasurable and informative read. Focus on each unique topic instills the importance of the subject.
This reviewer thinks anyone from middle school age to CEOs will find this book full of helpful advice for what they will need for current and future paths. Any person can plan for their future, and "… the experience you acquire will be the building blocks of your future."
