Immigrant Hustle: How 50 Entrepreneurs Came To America and Built Something Out of Nothing is an interesting compilation of the accounts of the paths immigrants took from their homelands to the United States and how they achieved success. The variety of individuals portrayed made this book fascinating. Individuals highlighted in this book immigrated from near and far – from Canada and Mexico to China and the Soviet Union, and many more countries. Many came to the U.S. as poor refugees while others came from middle-class or well-to-do families. They came for many different reasons: safety, education, or for better opportunities that we all know as “The American Dream.” The businesses these entrepreneurs built included those in the culinary arts, medical professions, financial investing, engineering, and more. Their stories are varied, but as the reader will discover as they become immersed in the book, their stories hold some common factors: they all found a passion and persevered to reach their goals – never giving up despite the difficulties they may have faced.

Author Amine Rahal's writing captures the reader's attention with carefully crafted words, making each individual's story come to life. The use of a standard format of documenting the immigrant's origins, immigration experience, path to entrepreneurship, and tips for aspiring entrepreneurs made the flow of reading smooth. Each of the stories is intriguing and inspiring and could easily stand on its own. The fact there are 50 stories within this book only makes this read more enjoyable.

This book was well-written and professionally edited, which is evidenced by its error-free content. There is nothing this book lacks, and the reader will relish every story. There are 50 captivating accounts in this book. The only possible drawback is that more stories weren't included. A sequel to this book with more stories would be welcomed.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Each of these stories was interesting. As the reader gets deeper into the book, the differences between the immigrants are evident: differences in their origins, reasons for immigrating, fields of business they found as their passion, and the paths to their success. The reader soon discovers that there are also strong similarities between the immigrants – similarities in their willingness to learn all they could about their passion, their "never give up" attitudes, and their ability to see failures and steppingstones to success. The stories were insightful, and so relevant to today's political discussions about the value of immigrants to our country.

Although the target audience for this book may be aspiring entrepreneurs, it is a great read for anyone who wants to understand better the value immigrants bring to our country. Immigration has been a hot topic in recent times, and this book, through the telling of these 50 stories, will validate that immigrants continue to bring tremendous value to our country. It is a reminder that the diversity of cultures and ideas brought together makes our nation unique, strong, and successful. Entrepreneurs, those interested in learning about immigration’s value, and any avid reader will thoroughly enjoy this book.
