How to Survive the Coming Retirement Storm by Robert Margetic, just as the title suggests, is a book that provides insight on how to prepare for and navigate retirement. Retirement is an uncharted area. For most of our adult lives, we are thrust into the rat race, working almost non-stop. With working also comes cushioned finances from salaries or wages. Retirement, however, is a whole new world that is very different from work life. Ideally, saving in our active years and living prudently will help us to survive retirement years; Robert Margetic has revealed that this is not nearly enough to survive the storm that is retirement. Inflation and unforeseen events can rock our retirement boat. In this book, Margetic has explained ways to stay afloat and thrive despite stormy times that may come during retirement.

This book was intense and educative. Naturally, one can tell just by reading the title that a book like this would be educative. But I did not expect it to be as intense as it was. Robert Margetic went deep and uncovered all the illusions surrounding retirement. I thought that all I had to do to prepare for retirement was to save and invest, but the author showed me how that is now impractical in the modern world. The author revealed how the unpredictability of market crashes and other factors could disrupt my plans and how to beat those factors. He was so detailed with his explanations of numbers and government practices that I had waves of anxiety. While anxiety is not desirable, it shows just how eye-opening this book is.

I like the author’s paragraphing. He took one point per paragraph, so it looked like bullet points; this gave me the feeling that he was straightforward and understandable. I also appreciated that this book did not only talk about financial planning. Robert Margetic acknowledged that a balanced life is important in surviving retirement. This balance he introduced reduced whatever anxiety I had about finances. He explained how to maintain a good social and healthy life but did not dwell on it too much that the book would seem like a health book. I appreciated this balance. It was also great to see that the author focused on future planning and factoring in inflation and other circumstances. I found his insights very wise.

I, however, did not appreciate the author’s paging. The text did not cover the entire page, and there was a big margin on the right side of all the pages. It did not help that the text was small, so I had to expand every page that I turned to read. Also, I found several errors, including comma errors. All these shortcomings lead me to suggest another round of professional editing.

How to Survive the Coming Retirement Storm deserves a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. I removed a star because of the editing issues. I did not rate the book lower because the author was appropriately detailed, and I found nothing else to dislike. I would primarily recommend this book to working-class individuals that are at retirement age. I believe that this book will be invaluable to their preparation process. But I would advise readers to brace themselves for the revelations and numbers. Every adult should read this book because we all will have to prepare for retirement someday; it is best to start early.

This is one of the rare books I'd love to get my hands on.
I'm not old enough to retire, but I hope to gain new information after reading this book.
Thank you for your review.
