The author only knows her mother through old letters, diaries, and old photos. Using these materials she writes an excellent memoir. It's unique how she used serenity's statue as a significant reference point to all the troubles the Clayland family has gone through.

To lose your wife after birthing five children? I can't even begin to imagine what Henry went through to raise them. The grief is even worse because this is a true story.

An interesting story with lots of emotions and struggles, it is a good book to the people who is emotionally connected to person or any object.
At the same time I'm also excited about the Mormon church I will soon learn.
Thank you...

I can't begin to imagine what it must have been like for this family to deal with the loss of a loved one. The author's simple yet elegant use of language will draw readers in and help them understand the effect this loss had on their family. Congrats on the BOTD selection!

A story about a man raising his kids upon the death of his wife by himself and without any assistance until necessary is a gripping one. I should check it out.

i'm not sure about books with a theme about religion. But when it's effective to sound more relatable, then I can't complain. It also seemed like it was important in the book, specially Henry's family.

The book seems Wonderful yet full of emotions. Can't imagine what it must have been for Henry to look out for his family while dealing with his wife's death. I would love to read this book. I would also love to find out the statue's importance in the book. Thanks for a great Review.

It is unfortunate what the author had to go through but she came out stronger than ever. Dealing with loss and abandonment could not be easy. Great review. Seems like an inspiring book.

I'd like to read what happened to Serenity and how her desecration paralleled that of the Claylands.
