[Following is a volunteer review of "Chronicles Journey Toward Hope" by Marvin Wilmes.]
Are you in a situation where it seems that God is not alive or hearing you? Do you wish for information that would help you navigate through life’s problems and losses? Then, Chronicle: Journey Towards Hope, a 179-page inspirational book by Marvin Wilmes, is the book for you. The book portrays the story of a man who is also a believer and how he struggles through life to succeed. It discusses matters such as suffering, trials, hope, God’s will, and more.
The book was divided into three parts. The first part introduced Marvin Wilmes and his life after his mother’s death. He had worked in three places before settling in Cherokee Daily Times, where he was promoted to an Assistant Editor. He met different girls but finally settled down with Lori Chihak. In part two, he had started his own publishing company, and issues arose which made the business start to crumble. He got the help of significant people who advised him to give up the business. Each part and chapter started with a quote, a Bible reference, and a key to overcoming loss. They added value and evidence to whatever the author said in that chapter as they are related. I love that the book was not overly religious despite the Bible reference and other Christian terminologies. The language and diction used by Marvin Wilmes welcomed all to the encouraging contents in the book. The author also used well-developed characters to drive crucial points into readers’ minds through the book’s stories.
My favorite part of the book was those times God would lead him towards a different direction from what he had in mind. And he had begun doubting God’s decision; it reminded me of myself. Also, I admire Lori. Although she would express her mind on issues concerning the family, she was loyal and supportive no matter her husband’s final decision and the effects. She never worried about money for their family throughout the trying time. You could say that she is the Bible’s definition of a wife.
There was nothing to dislike about the book. The stories were heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. The book made me admire and appreciate the author’s imaginative mind. I learned some business rules from his talks with Troy, Paul, Helen, John and his measures to sustain his business. The book is well edited although, I observed a few errors that did not impede my reading.
Therefore, I rate Chronicle: Journey Towards Hope4 out of 4 stars. I recommend the book to people passing through challenging times. Also, I believe young Christians can learn one or two lessons from the book.
