When Your Voice Became Mine by Celeste N. Bowers is a study in faith and receiving answers, it is preceded by the author's first book, If there's a Mailbox in Heaven. This book is connected to that theme with the subtitle; There IS a Mailbox in Heaven. Although not explicitly numbered, this book is the second in the series.

When Celeste Bowers and her husband and family lost their ten-year-old daughter, Christina, to cancer, the packages or letters to Heaven were a way to deliver messages and grow in faith and strength. The author didn't expect the answers from Heaven that gave her a new direction and purpose.

Each chapter of this book is labeled as a package that is sent to Heaven. This is in keeping with the book's theme and adds to the effectiveness of its overall message. As the story progresses, each new statement reflects Christina's family and friends' insights gained by knowing Christina while she was here on Earth. As Celeste grows in faith and learns, the actions she takes bond forever her life and new insights with those of her daughter, creating newfound wisdom.

Initially, I expected this book to be sad all the way through. That is not the case. From the beginning, this story sets the reader on a course of learning the character and purpose of Christina's life and how it affected the lives and futures of those around her. In that sense, I can say the character development is superb. I found myself liking Christina right away, and I looked forward to hearing what she said next as I turned the pages. As the book states, this book is not just about Christina, or even cancer, but focuses on how Christina let the Lord work through her to bring others closer to God.

I loved the theme of restoration and the new purpose that this book's message offers. When faced with loss, many people collapse in every way. Not just physically, but mentally and spiritually as well. This book shows a path to a new existence that can help people find ways to move forward on a positive approach, although not completely free of the memory of sadness. That direction was what I liked most about this work.

I could find nothing to dislike about this work. It is professionally edited, and I enjoyed reading the inner thoughts and wisdom that is provided. The writing style flows well, and the subject matter will appeal to those who find themselves needing some encouragement. Readers who enjoy memoirs will also like this novel. I can't think of anyone it wouldn't appeal to in some way. The photographs make it a fun and personable journey of love and family. For these reasons, I rate this work with 4 out of 4 stars.
