Title: Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress A Practical Guide
Author: Gustavo Kinrys, M.D., Alexandra Gold, M.A.
Publisher: Boston Press Group, USA
Print: 2018
Pages: 155

The authors of this book, Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress, by Gustavo Kinrys and Alexandra Gold, have done a superb job in assembling all the current resources available to help reduce stress and anxiety symptoms in people's lives in a concise read. The book is relevant today because more people than usual suffer from stress or anxiety in their families, homes, and careers. Although there is a lot to worry about in this ongoing pandemic environment, remedies exist to minimize some negative effects that can influence our daily lives.

This book is broken down expertly and succinctly beginning first with thirteen nutrient-based remedies, secondly, a list of fifteen herbal-based remedies with chamomile at the top of the list; thirdly, a list of eight natural remedies, with breathing exercises at the top of the list, fourthly, a list of seven alternative remedies, with acupuncture, aromatherapy and music therapy at the top of the list, and lastly with a list of five top anxiety and stress relieving foods found in grocery stores.

The second part of the book speaks in-depth about technology-based therapies such as virtual reality therapy, which helps patients confront feared experiences, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), non-invasive therapy for treating neurological and psychiatric disorders, and biofeedback allows patients to control involuntary body processes such as heart rate and muscle tension, and finally, app-based treatments using smartphones. Smartphone apps are beginning to show promise because patients can self-help themselves to relieve mild anxiety and stress when time constricts are a problem and cannot visit a mental health professional.

The authors of this book are experts in mental health and psychology and are devoted to discovering safer ways to alleviate mental health issues in patients. Dr. Kinrys, is the Associate Medical Director at the MGH Clinical Trials Network and Institute CTI and a member of the Dauten Center for Bipolar Innovation DCBT, at Massachusetts General Hospital, and is a faculty member at Harvard Medical School. He has also published over one hundred books and won awards for lectures and presentations. Ms. Gold, M.A., is a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology at Boston University and co-authored many scientific publications.

Natural Relief for Anxiety and Stress provides you with what you need to understand; therefore, I rate this book four out of four stars because of its excellent editing and easy to read format. I personally found this book interesting because of the thorough explanations of the resources and remedies available, which have proven to be helpful and, more importantly, precautions are provided. This is the read one will refer to repeatedly, especially during these concerning times.
