Have you ever wondered why nothing seems to be accomplished in Washington, DC? Why the same problems receive the same non-answers time and time again? Have you felt you weren’t hearing the whole story from the media? Or wondered why certain changes you view as positive are consistently portrayed negatively by news outlets?

Alan Schein sheds some light on these and many other questions in his book The Red Wave Imperative: The Case for America to Vote, “Right.” The book is designed as an encouragement for readers to vote Republican in the 2018 mid-term election to support the many positive changes struggling to take shape through the federal government under President Donald Trump—changes being systematically thwarted by the New Democratic Party. The contents of the book, however, are in no way limited to 2018, but contain useful information about political and class warfare, immigration, socialism, ruling elites, the media, the threat of nuclear attack, welfare, the deep state, surveys and polls, and much more.

What I like most about this book is how Schein condenses some really broad, complex issues into comprehendible nuggets. In a time when people desire information quickly, Schein’s broad but informed and intelligent review of various political hot topics seems to be exactly what is needed. The book is a manageable length but contains a wealth of material. It provides information about the differing views of each issue and outlines the consequences of taking certain actions, giving both historical and contemporary examples from countries both foreign and domestic. Although The Red Wave Imperative is written from a decidedly Republican viewpoint, Schein does not hide the flaws of his own political party, but lays bare unsavory details about people on both sides of the aisle.

The book itself is easy to read. The format is clear and well organized. Frequent headings in bold font make it easy to locate specific information and highlight key points. The writing style is highly readable and Schein seems to be extremely well informed about the topics, with several pages of sources listed in the Endnotes.

I feel this book was professionally edited. There were only a couple minor grammatical flaws, such as missing periods, with nothing that truly hindered the flow of reading. I only noticed one typo.

Throughout the book, the idea of a Voter-Controlled Democracy is championed. However, in spite of how frequently the idea is mentioned, I was never able to fully grasp what he meant by it. This is what I dislike most about the book. It appears to be an important concept, but I would hesitate to support or reject such a view after reading this book, because I feel I was not given sufficient information to know what I would be supporting or rejecting. The nature of the book is an overview, but this particular matter would have benefited from a slightly deeper explanation.

Because the book speaks against the New Democratic Party, it is unlikely this party’s supporters would enjoy reading it. Even within Republican circles, some will likely say Schein went too far in certain areas, while others will say he didn’t go far enough. Regardless of this, there is a great deal of useful and important information that would be beneficial to any voting American.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It has an exceptionally clear format and is packed with great information. It has very few negative factors and has provided me with a greater understanding of many issues as well as showing me certain topics I may want to delve into on a deeper level at some point in the future.
