Stand Up! For Yourself by Jennie Msangi is a Christian-themed self-help book. In it, Msangi, who is also a podcaster, TV show host, and minister, gives readers practical tools they can use to move from quantity living to quality living. The author maintains that more than just surviving, God also wants us to thrive. By quoting and interpreting appropriate Bible verses, Msangi methodically expands on this notion. If you are struggling and in need of a drastic change, this book might just be what you need to transform your life for the better.

The book has fifteen subsections, nine of which expand on biblical principles that can help one live a fulfilling life. These principles include faith, perseverance, responsibility, and others. The book is quite short, with only 141 pages, but it's not meant to be a quick read. This is because it comes with multiple exercises that take longer to complete. At the end of the book, Msangi includes an appendix with documents the reader can use to complete some of the exercises.

I liked most the practical nature of this book. One exercise I found most useful is called the Quality Living Continuum. The exercise helped me identify the path I'm currently on and where I need to make changes. Once I completed this exercise, it was much easier for me to put the lessons shared in the book into action. More than a book, Stand Up! For Yourself is also a movement. Readers can purchase additional resources, e.g., the 90-Day Action Planner template created by Msangi, on the movement's website. The author provides the link to the website in the book.

What I liked least in the book were aspects of its formatting. For example, whenever the author uses the phrase stand up for yourself, she writes it as "Stand up! For Yourself." While I understand she might have done this for emphasis and to reference the title, I found it distracting, and it disrupted the flow of her writing. More than that, I found some editing errors that could have been picked up by another round of proofreading. In one instance, the author repeats one paragraph three times. This suggested the book was not professionally edited.

I rate Stand Up! For Yourself 3 out of 4 stars. It loses a star for the editing errors and formatting issues I mentioned above. Some of the errors are minor but, given the book's length, they should have been picked up and corrected. I cannot give the book a lower rating because I enjoyed its practical delivery and found its lessons valuable. I would recommend it to Christian readers looking to change their lives for the better. Readers who do not identify with Christian beliefs, and those who don't enjoy self-help books might not enjoy this book.

I have only just started reading Christian self-help books. I think this is another one that could be a winner. Hopefully the author releases an updated version that takes care of these typos.
