Review by kajones0987 -- Away To Me, My Love
I enjoyed the book, Away to Me, My Love by James Cooley. This book begins with …. I give it 4 out of 4 stars.
One of the elements I enjoyed most about this book was the storytelling style of the author. It was very engaging and intriguing. I learned a lot about herding dogs and found this to be an enjoyable read.
I found only one spelling error in this book, and I found no grammatical errors. On page 67, in the 3rd line of the prayer, there is a misspelling. “WE WILL ALWAYSE BE GRATEFUL TO BOBBIE JO…” “ALWAYSE” should be spelled “ALWAYS”. Drop the “E” at the end.
The most interesting part for me was how the author’s second dog was sold to herd cattle instead of sheep because her aggressiveness would actually be beneficial. This makes sense, but I never thought about it. Since I have a background with horses, I’ve often seen horses working cattle and never dogs. I didn’t realize they were used for this purpose.
I was not as interested in the part about Native American beliefs. I understand why the author included it, but it just isn’t something that readers who hold different religious beliefs are going to agree with. It does display the author’s perspective and experiences in these circumstances.
I feel this book would be particularly relevant for anyone interested in herding dogs or herding in general. Partway through the book, the author does share religious views of the Native Americans; it was part of what occurred. However, readers who may still enjoy this book whether they are religious or not.
