Away To Me, My Love by Naomi McDonald is a true story about the journey of a woman, Naomi, and her dog, it is packed full of love, strength, friendship, and heartbreak. The book begins with a story of how Naomi got talked into going to a sheepherding competition by one of her friends. This specific event set the stage for the rest of the book as Naomi realized her passion for sheepherding and border collies. From the moment she met her dog Luke, she knew he was meant to be with her, and their bond only grew.

What I like most about this book is the way the author perfectly explained all of her emotions. This made the book very real and relatable allowing the readers to put themselves in Naomi’s shoes and understand exactly what she felt. I also really like how the author tied in stories from her childhood. These memories are placed exactly where they should be to make them even more effective to readers. Another aspect of this book that I enjoyed is the way the author portrayed her relationship with her husband. She showed their closeness and love for each other while also showing that they were not perfect and had moments where they did not get along. She could have made it sound like they were a flawless couple with no issues, but she chose not to which made the descriptions of her emotions even stronger.

There is nothing in this book that I disliked. I was never bored while reading this story as the pacing and emotional descriptions were so well written. I was able to connect with the characters and understand why they felt the way they felt. This story also was never predictable and kept me waiting for what was going to happen next. The author was also able to show the development of the relationship with her dog and her personal development in a very effective way that helped show her emotional connection to her dog.

Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars as I believe this book was very well written and edited as there were only a couple of minor errors that I found. The author chose to split up the story using chapters and I believe she picked the best places to do this.

I think this book should be read by anyone who is a dog lover and is interested in personal development. This will be an entertaining read with many ups and downs all while creating a strong connection to the characters.
