Review by Avudufume-Gao -- Effective Thinking
Effective Thinking “A Lesson in Humility” by William Taddit, which every parent and guardians need to read, keep on the bookshelves and encourage their children to read more often.
This a book that talks about some basic concepts lacking in our society because the academic curriculum designers did not think of the relevance of these concepts which should be the fundamental principles of our educational training and formation. I totally share with the authors idea of understanding the true meaning of principles and thereby upholding them in our everyday life activities. Because without these principles we are not different from living in the jungle and are savages!
The book goes on to define and disabuse certain beliefs many of us held for long wrongly. It backs it each of the theories with scientific proof making each of them very substantiated for any doubt some may have. It tells us how shallow minded many of us have been in taking and accepting many debris into our system because we tend to believe the source of the information. The author reminds us the basic aims of politicians and the media to give just what people want to hear.
Giving us more about the difference kinds of thinking habits. Whatever one may think, majority of us fall under the common traps by always not offending others with our thought or what we need to think of deeply to get clearer understanding in other to challenge the shallow opinions of others. Most importantly when this information is coming from people with repute and authority, we also believe cheaply without critical analyses by the various formulas addressed.
Taking the guidelines of the book, “Causal Thinking” which reality is defined by the four principles into consideration, one will note that if these principles are being included and taught in our educational curriculum, many of our basic beliefs would have changed. Touching all spheres of life, from the home through to our works place, social lives, religious believes and political choices, Effective Thinking “A Lesson in Humility” has given us what it takes to consider irrespective of where we find ourselves and whatever is been said, need critical analysis before accepting and digesting.
Despite all the many clear and basic concepts laid down for effective thinking for our smooth every day activities, the author’s continuous use of possessive phrase of “our Declaration of Independence” which I think was limiting the readers to the authors own country could have been avoided to make the readers feel more comfortable with a phrase which is inclusive and open minded.
The novel, Effective Thinking “A Lesson in Humility” is also remarkably edited, and has negligible error. Though some strong words intimidated me, many other readers familiar with these words would have no problem. Despite this reason, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. I do recommend it to younger audiences. You might also want to read, share and practice the outlined guidance of the book but not necessarily using some words which are strong. On the other hand, education trainers and formators need to recommend this book to their students.
