Review by Sushan -- Ripcord Recovery by T.T. Sawyer
When you are falling from a height, and when your death seems imminent, a parachute is one of the best options to save your life. But just having a parachute will not be of any help to save you. You need to expand it by pulling the ripcord. That is how that small string, the so-called "ripcord" becomes a life saving measure. But ultimately it is in your own hands whether to pull it or not, and when to pull it, before it is too late. This is the core of the message that T.T. Sawyer is trying to convey through his book, Ripcord Recovery.
T.T. Sawyer (not the author's real name) who has been at the end of his family life, his occupational life, his own life, and literally speaking at the end of everything due to his problematic drinking, has found a new way to get rid of alcohol addiction. He has written down his method in 73 pages, has put it in a bottle, and has released it to a water current to be found by anyone who is in dire need of it. That is how this book, Ripcord Recovery …my message in a bottle for addicts caught in the relapse death spiral by T.T. Sawyer has come to life.
This book carries a small description of the problems that the author faced due to his drinking, how his therapies failed and how he relapsed, and finally how he became his own therapist and became sober while being happy and active.
I will not include details about his method since it spoils your reading experience. All I can say is that many of you will not agree with him, but for some this method will be their life saving ripcord.
It’s not about how long anyone has been sober, it’s about being happily sober today.
The pros regarding this book are numerous. It is a short and sweet read. No unnecessary philosophical thoughts or lengthy descriptions of how the author felt and etc. Everything is straightforward. So you can grasp it easily in a single reading. And also, the method is simply and clearly noted down. Anyone can easily get adopted to it by just reading the book. The book is professionally edited, and I found only a single error. No usage of profane language. In addition, sketches were included in several locations. They helped to give out the message much stronger and also helped to break the monotonous flow.
The only con that I can mention is that the author's past life descriptions not being chronologically ordered. It was bit distracting for me, and this might be just a personal feeling since I look for order and balance in everything.
Considering all above, I would like to rate this book with 4 out of 4 stars. This may be an addition to other available numerous methods which are used to get rid of alcohol, but it never becomes too much, since there are many problem drinkers who still have not found the therapy method to totally cure them. I recommend this to anyone who is suffering from alcohol addiction and in search of a way for salvation, and also for the medical practitioners, therapists and medical researchers for their knowledge and research purposes.
