Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks is a helpful guide for readers who are looking for the right answers in a world full of conflicting and confusing information. Morton E Tavel, MD, has a friendly voice as he examines a wide variety of topics relating to health and general well being.

Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks is unofficially separated into what I thought of as three sections; food, health awareness, and miscellaneous. The sections are further broken down into short chapters that focus on one topic and follow a consistent pattern of examining scientific research in order to provide a conclusion or recommendation.

I rate this book two out of four stars. What I liked most about the book was the author's writing style. It felt like a conversation between friends rather than a lecture. I was not made to feel bad about myself for having habits or believing the opposite information, and I did not feel overwhelmed by all the recommendations. Rather, Tavel's simple and blunt way of outlining the 'right' answers (according to the scientific research he conducted), helped me see that living a healthy lifestyle is not far out of reach.

What I disliked the most was that the majority of topics covered in Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks, were already familiar to me. Based on the title and description of the book, I was expecting at least a few 'aha' moments. Instead, while reassuring, it was somewhat bland to realize that the conclusions of the debunked myths were mainly what most logical people might presume to be true.

Overall, the rating of two is because the book was pleasant and easy to read. The short chapters were like a reset and held my interest. I was not drowning in pages of medical jargon. Tavel uses a friendly, humorous and sarcastic voice to examine each topic. He relates his topics to the real world, managing to stay relevant even though written several years ago. A rating of three was not considered because there is a slight shift in the author's tone during the second third of the book, where he expresses more judgment and negativity towards those who did not share his point of view. In some instances Tavel uses more cynical, angry language than in the other parts of the book. I found myself trusting him more when he maintained a more neutral and humorously approach.

Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks, could be a satisfying read by most audiences. Anyone interested in learning some valuable information about living a healthy lifestyle might find this book enjoyable.
