I would love to read this book! I love seeing how people live in culturally different spaces but still call it home, or one of their homes in this case!

Good review. I want sure about the book, but after adding the review I would love to give this one a try. I want to hear more on her bizarre family and weird experiences. I’m not big on jumping around in the book I find it confusing but I think I can oversee that. I’ll add this to list of books tin read.

Although I’m not really in the market for a memoir, the tone and style of this writer very quickly swept me away! I will definitely add this one to my list :)

This was a great review. I enjoyed all the points raised about the book, positive and negative. This sounds like a well-written memoir. An International childhood and lifestyle would be fascinating. Thanks for the great review!

Official Review: Standing out by Angelo Lee Chen.

I am currently doing a memoir review myself and I recently found that I enjoy reading them. What makes them special is the fact that the life the author experienced is different from mine and yours. We maybe common in some way or the other but our life experiences are different and that is what makes us unique as human beings. Thanks for the review.

Memoirs are sometimes boring, but I'm glad the author used some funny anecdotes.

To those who wanted to know about the different cultures that the world have, this book is recommended, plus a bonus of colorful experiences of the author. The review was great.

Standing out:Angela le chen is an interesting piece of writing, a typical me would go on having entirely poor notion of Africa but reading her experience i can say how you relate with people will determine what they see whenever they look at you.
Reading her challenges and resolution would help one muster courage in finding out nearly or most appropriate ways to solving personal challenges life throws at you

This sounds like an interesting memoir, but that genre is not for me. Great review.

At this point I’ve only read the sample. It was enough to pique curiosity. To me the conversation about finding the One behind the adjectives was thought provoking. I suspect my mind will linger there a while as I drift into sleep tonight.
Initially, I was stunned at Angela’s response when asked about her heritage. I guess I was taken aback to think my own behavior might make another person feel that uncomfortable. I couldn’t really laugh at these parts, because in my mind most people are just being honestly curious and would be dismayed that they made her so uncomfortable.
The review was helpful with the information about some of the jumps made without adequate background. Perhaps this will help my understanding if I can anticipate these confusing parts. I enjoy memoirs, and I think this one promises to be interesting.

This book's description sounds like it falls somewhere between The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan and Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. I enjoyed both immensely and look forward to reading this one.
