Thoughts on The Three Musketeers?

Post by MsLisa »

I remember trying to read my very thick, picture-less, copy of it when I was younger but the language was too complicated for me to understand and it gave me a headache. Is it worth the attempt now to start over reading the book? :eusa-think:

It is a good book to read, and I would suggest if you are not sure about reading the Alexandre Dumas book because of the complicated language, try an edition by another translation by Richard Pevear or Will Hobson. You could also try the Penguin Classic edition. I used to enjoy reading their books.

Another suggestion would be to look for the book in kindle format, or other option that would allow you to read a sample and see how you like it.

I heard about this book from my friends. They say the story is really nice and every girl would love it.

It is definitely worth it especially now that you are older. You will definitely enjoy the antics of the three musketeers as they embark on their mission.

I read the whole Three Musketeers series. And loved it so much that I read other books by Alexandre Dumas (The Count of Monte Cristo, La Reine Margot).

Well, it depends.
If you like historical fiction and action, it's worth reading again -- for me, the antique language is part of the fun.
I, however, am not normal. YMMV.
A more modern version will make it more accessible, and here is the best guide to know if you need the modern version.
Do you enjoy reading Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, or the Bronte sisters? If not, get a modern version.

Three musketeers is a great adventure story to read, it keeps you in the story line from the beginning till the end. I read it in my native language (Russian) and then in English and I liked both times. So you can try to read it!! I think you’ll enjoy it very much.

It's surely worth reading but you will need to have a serious mindset to enjoy it.

It is a great book to read. I read the children's version when I was little and I loved it!

Kinda late to reply... But, it's a great book! (One of my favorites actually. XD) It's important to find the proper translation, though. And just have fun with it. If you can imagine all the silly things they do in your head (like you're watching a comedy or a play), it's bound to be lots of fun!

From my childhood, this one remains in my memory to date. My two brothers and I still refer to ourselves as the Three Musketeers. This was an interesting read that might take time to disappear despite its complexity.
