This book would have been more moving if there were more powerful female characters. But to be fair to the author, there weren't actually that many strong women in the past, which is really sad, but I have to admit that's the truth. But I loved the character Lady Sougyon.

I think the author was tilting towards accurate historical portrayal of that time hence the lack of "strong" female characters. I can respect that.

Nearly all ladies are naturally strong, and this is true regardless of how they were raised and trained to go about their daily lives in their homeland. The majority of women's characters are strong in various ways and have the mentality to approach problems in their own unique ways.
