[Following is a volunteer review of "Betrayal in Blue" by Mark M. Bello.]
[rbc=4]id336476-125[/rbc]Captain Jack Dylan is the Captain of the Dearborn Police Department. He takes his job to protect, both his officers and his townspeople, extremely seriously. Jack has just finished investigating the bombing of Dearborn’s Mosque and Islamic museum. Jack and his team where instrumental in apprehending and convicting homegrown terrorist, Benjamin Blaine. After putting Blaine in prison for life, Jack and his officers go back to business as usual. Until Noah, the police department’s technology wizard, finds some chatter about a potential terrorist attack involving sarin gas. The FBI swoops in and takes over, leaving a frustrated Jack and his team on the sidelines.

After the FBI doesn’t get the results that Jack wants, Jack informs his team that he’s taking leave. Jack tracks and finds the leader of the planned sarin attack, Barton Breitner. Once Jack finds his target he fails to notify anyone, other than his team, which leads to an angry local police Captain. Jack is charged with murder. Thankfully, Jack and his team know an amazing lawyer. Enter Zachary Blake; expensive, high powered, attorney at law. Will Jack be found guilty? Will Breitner be found? Will the white supremacist terrorists go through with an attack?

Personally, my favorite part of Betrayal in Blue by Mark M. Bello, is the courtroom scenes. I found the character, Zachary Blake, to be intelligent, sensitive and enjoyable to watch work. I went through a range of emotions while reading the scenes that took place in the courthouse. The by-play between Mr. Blake, Mr. Weaver and Judge Shipley had me alternating between annoyance and laughter. The part I disliked the most about Betrayal in Blue, is Captain Jack Dylan. He is a wholly unlikeable person. He’s stubborn, rude, and inconsiderate. However, I believe that his character works in the way it’s intended to. We aren’t supposed to love Jack, we’re supposed to grudgingly respect and root for him.

Betrayal in Blue by Mark M. Bello is exceptionally well edited. It has obviously been edited by a professional. Throughout the entire novel I was only able to find one error. This book would appeal to a wide range of readers in my opinion. If someone enjoys procedural, courtroom dramas, or action-packed mysteries they will enjoy Betrayal in Blue.

I rate Betrayal in Blue by Mark M. Bello four out of four stars. I found it extremely difficult to close this book. The suspense and drama created a reading experience that was exciting from beginning to end. Betrayal in Blue is a wonderfully well written book that is as close to error free as possible. The chapters were woven together perfectly creating a flow that makes the reader forget how long they have been reading. Betrayal in Blue is one of the best crime novels I have been privileged enough to read in a long time.
