Betrayal of Faith by Mark M Bell
Jennifer Tracey is a widow raising two young boys Kenny 11 and Jake 9. They live in the state of Michigan. Jennifer works as a small town newspaper editor and attends Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church with her two boys. Fr. Bill a beloved friend of the family gets reassigned to a new parish. Kenny and Jake miss Fr. Bill terribly. Fr. Bill enjoyed coaching and taking the boys camping. He had been a real mentor to the boys ever since the death of their father.
Fr. Gerry comes to Our Lady of the Lakes church to replace Fr. Bill. Kenny and Jake are not themselves after returning from a weekend camping trip with Fr. Gerry. Jennifer turns to the church for a explanation. The church has a secret coalition for handling these matters. They offer to pay for the boys psychiatric care. Jennifer accepts the offer but has no idea as to how they will be watching her every move.
Betrayal of Faith is a riveting story of suspense, love, friendship, religion, and betrayal. It is a passionate story of a loving and devoted mother Jennifer Tracey. Jennifer won't stop for money or love until she gets jail time for the perpetrator. She is a woman with a mission. She wants justice for all children as will as her own. Dr. Rothenberg is a refreshing psychiatrist whos high moral and ethics won't be paid off by the coalition. Zachery Blake, a lawyer whose love for life and passion for his work, is recently renewed by taking on Jennifer Tracey's case. Micah Love is a brilliant investigator who uncovers two other families who have been relocated and paid off by the coalition .
It is encouraging to see a author take on a sensitive subject matter as sexual abuse in the church. It is very apparent that the author has worked with victims and families of sexual abuse. The characters are to realistic and believable for it to be otherwise. I appreciate his willingness to bring to the forefront a families worse nightmare. To give it a face when so many today still want to brush it under the cover.
What I love most about this book is how the author intertwines a bit of a love story between the mother and lawyer without it taking away from the main theme of what a family goes thru when they have been betrayed by the cloth. He acknowledges each family members pain and those that are close to them . He gives you enough suspense to keep you turning the pages without getting bored. He offers a voice to those who have been violated without taking away there dignity. And he brings a surprising end that the reader won't see coming.
However, this book has a highly sensitive subject matter and for that reason I would not recommend it for young readers. I would also not recommend this book for those that don't like having there faith tested or looked at closely. I appreciate how exceptionally will edited this book is. I found it to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. Betrayal of Faith is a must read for those with a strong heart. I'm giving it 4 out of 4 stars.
