Review of Sinister Things
After killing the witch who killed her husband, Carl, Carolyn returns home to raise his 10-year-old daughter, Hanna. However, Carolyn did not come home alone; she brought Night Wisps with her. Hanna is not happy that she brought them home with her because of a past encounter she had with them. Then two people are killed, and she sees changes in Carolyn that are disturbing to her. Fearful of the changes she sees in Carolyn and the Night Wisps, Hanna calls her grandmother, Gretchen, and tells her she wants to live with her. Gretchen, who blames Carolyn for her son Carl’s death, does not like Carolyn and does not want her raising Hanna. Bad things continue to happen, and Hanna’s life is put in danger. Are Carolyn and the Night Wisps responsible, or is there something more sinister happening? Read Sinister Things by A. D. Logan to find out.
One of my favorite aspects of this novel is how it addresses the different effects grief can have on people. For example, some people become self-destructive while others blame themselves or others. The author did an excellent job with the character development, as I could easily visualize the monsters, a floating head, witches, demons, and other supernatural beings. There are many life lessons throughout the storyline about alcohol, accountability, unexpected life events, manners, and much more. For example, Hanna always remembered her deceased father’s advice. One that I think many people forget is that your actions can reveal your thoughts.
I gave this professionally edited book 5 out of 5 stars because there was nothing I disliked about it, and it contained only a few minor errors that did not distract from my reading experience. On top of this, the storyline was full of gory action, which I enjoy reading in supernatural and paranormal books.
Although this book is advertised for teens and young adults, I recommend it for those on the older side of the spectrum due to the gory content, non-borderline profanity, and sexual activities that are not appropriate for younger readers. However, if you enjoy these aspects in paranormal and supernatural thrillers, you will enjoy reading this book.
