Review of The Diary of an Actor
The Diary of an Actor: Part 1 The Conspiracy by Chandra Preethi is a crime mystery inspired by the life of Sushant Singh Rajput, a deceased Bollywood actor. The story transports us to a birthday party of a famous Bollywood producer. Bollywood celebrities, including Sushil and his girlfriend, are attending the birthday party. Among the party guests is Usha, a celebrity manager and a friend of Sushil. A drunk guest accidentally spills her drink on Usha’s dress, and Usha walks to the utility room to use a water tap. Suddenly, she discovers under the basin a tied-up and gagged teenage girl. As Usha tries to rescue the girl, she finds that the door to the utility room is locked. Usha calls Sushil for help. Before long, Usha and Sushil find themselves in deadly peril.
The Diary of an Actor was a fast-moving and eventful read. I liked how the author created the Bollywood atmosphere, developed the characters, and portrayed Indian rituals and traditions. The storyline was suspenseful and kept me turning pages. This immersive story favorably reminded me of Seeta and Geeta, the only Bollywood film I had watched. And The Diary of an Actor felt like a film up to par with Seeta and Geeta. The story was full of characters to love and hate! I also appreciated how the author explored topical social issues of drug abuse, corruption, child abduction, betrayal, and conspiracy. I also admired the thorough research the author undertook to write this novella. And most of all, I liked the unexpected, dramatic ending that left me wanting to read a sequel.
I enjoyed every moment of reading this story and disliked nothing. So, I happily rate this praiseworthy novella five out of five stars.
This story will appeal to adult fans of Sushant Singh Rajput, Bollywood, and crime mysteries in general.
