Dr. Jeannie Johal is a trained surgeon who specializes in plastics and works in a nonprofit clinic providing services to women and children with facial deformities. She also has a graduate degree in epidemiology and enjoys analyzing data. This makes her the perfect choice to be sent to North Carolina to investigate possible sabotage of a research project studying the effect of semaglutide on Type II diabetic patients to see if the disease can be reversed. Jeannie is from Canada, but originally came from India, was educated by British teachers, and fled from India to hide from an abusive husband. She is quite an intriguing character!

Jeannie’s boss, Beatrix Bach, in Canada, is Dr. Norma Dunn’s best friend from the time when they both served in Afghanistan. So, Jeannie is sent to Greenville, North Carolina, to help Dr. Dunn find out who is sabotaging her research project. Jeannie has only just met Dr. Dunn when Dr. Dunn is murdered. Rather than abandon the project, Jeannie is determined to discover who murdered Dr. Dunn, only to find herself in danger. Along the way, she befriends Tanisha, the young woman who has been entering the data into an Excel spreadsheet with no idea what she is doing. Jeannie arranges to train and/or get training in Excel so the data can be re-entered correctly. She also finds Tanisha a place to live. Tanisha is one of my favorite characters.

Bless Your Heart: A Jeannie Johal Thriller by Susann Camus is a crime thriller, and no crime thriller would be complete without detectives, and Officers Harmony and Henry do not disappoint. They are investigating the multiple murders while trying to keep track of all the suspects. The storylines are skillfully intertwined to keep the reader guessing. The author tracks the timeline by listing the days as they pass, which is an interesting approach that I did enjoy.

I gave the book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars as I did not find anything negative about the book. It was professionally edited and an enjoyable read from beginning to end. Although Bless Your Heart: A Jeannie Johal Thriller is the second in the series, it is not necessary that you have to read the first one before this one. Readers should be aware that there is some non-borderline profanity in the book.
