When I saw this book, The Blood Dimmed Tide Is Loosed by Dre’ Till, I wondered what it meant. I read the description and the cover and discovered it was a murder/mystery thriller. I decided to read it, even though it is not usually something I would choose. I am glad that I did, as this book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through.

The book takes place in Chicago, my hometown, and is about Stanas Dahn, who works for Chicago’s Sanitation Division. In other words, he is a sanitation worker. He has urges to kill people, and he hears voices that tell him whom to kill and how he must do it. When he kills someone, they are usually on his garbage route so that he can put their remains in garbage bags, throw them in the garbage cans, and the next day pick them up in the garbage truck that will dispose of them at the landfill. Oh, one more thing, he wears a hideous devil’s mask while he kills these victims.

A very intelligent and handsome detective, Dan West, is involved in finding these missing persons, along with his ex/current girlfriend, Alex. So, there is a little romance in the story. The murders are quite graphic and disturbing, so readers should be aware of that before picking up this book. The book is not professionally edited, as numerous errors distracted me from the book's flow. Errors that could have been caught with some proofreading. The story jumped back and forth between characters, but I did not mind that. The book's pacing was good, keeping you reading to discover what would happen next. There were no dull moments in the script. I felt that the characters were developed adequately, and the writing flowed.

I am going to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I am deducting a star because of the poor editing that was, to me, distracting. The only thing I disliked about the book was the graphic murder scenes. There was some profanity, but it was not excessive, and I would definitely not recommend this for the younger crowd.  Readers who love murder mysteries will love this one.
