Review of Snow Country Lane
Review of Snow Country Lane, by Sarah Vail.
I was pleasantly reminded of James Patterson’s Big Bad Wolf. If you enjoyed that book, you will definitely enjoy this novel by Sarah Vail. Snow Country Lane goes into depth about human trafficking awareness, child abuse, and some psychological trauma perspectives, which makes for a thrilling read.
In the first few pages of Snow Country Lane, we are thrown into a heart-shattering kidnapping of an innocent child. Then our main character, Tim McAndrews, almost gets killed within the first few pages and ends up with PTSD from his encounter. His now wife, Dani, definitely ends up with PTSD from the serial killer hunting her down. I really enjoyed how, in the book, it’s made clear that this does not just go away but that it affects the characters—and us, the readers too—and makes every scenario feel high-stakes.
From there, the happy couple tries to heal from their encounter at a ski resort, where they end up running into a human trafficking ring. Sarah Vail’s book is nonstop with twists and turns, leaving you guessing about the outcome and the fate of the children in question. Especially once we are introduced to Senator Shearer, whose ambitions to become the next president and ties to the trafficking ring that Tim is trying to uncover take on a dark turn. What Tim and Dani end up unearthing is far more sinister that just human kidnapping, a venture into the occult and human sacrifice that has us the reader in horror of how far the dark nature of humanity can go!
There was a little bit of profanity used in the book, but it is a crime thriller with adult characters, so it was expected. Only two f-bombs were used, and they were near the end of the book. It was not overused in reaction to the scenarios occurring within the pages. This book does contain romance, but nothing explicit or erotic; it is very well written. It did detour a bit with the romance in the middle of the book, but even with that, this book is one that’s hard to put down.
