Nightmare Before Mardi Gras is a suspenseful thriller following Sergeant Jeremy Porter as he works to hunt down child abusers and bring them to justice. Porter becomes aware of a complicated case involving a young boy named Julio who went on a retreat and now has nightmares, but he cannot remember what happened to him. After meeting Julio and his mother, Porter is determined to follow it. Although Julio claims he just had a nightmare, his mother knows something bad happened at his overnight camp visit. When Porter starts investigating, he finds that the crimes and criminals go much deeper than just this one instance. When high-ranking members of the community are suspected of being involved, Porter must fight to keep his job, solve the case, and bring criminals to justice.

The book's plot kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. Although some elements were predictable, there are other things the author gradually brought into the story that kept me guessing. Porter’s work and determination to help this little boy and bring criminals to justice was intense. I appreciate that the author included how Porter’s work affected his personal life and the sacrifices he had to make. The author also did a great job covering a heavy topic without making the writing too graphic or vulgar.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I took off one star to due some editing errors as well as the use of undeveloped side plots. My main complaint is that there was unnecessary filler; I felt the main plot was strong and the relationships among the main characters developed nicely. However, there were some events and relationships tangentially related to the plot that weren’t fully developed within the story, and I felt they took away from the main plot points.

I would recommend this to readers who enjoy crime and suspense novels. Due to adult content and violence, I would only recommend this to adults.

I appreciate this. We don't need to get nightmares of our own to understand how despicable this crime is.

I love a thrilling crime story! And the stakes are really high on this one! Mardi Gras makes for the perfect chaotic backdrop for something like this, and New Orleans is full of so much mystique and supernatural stories that it adds depth to the plot. Thank you for your review.

I can tell, as soon as I open the book, that this is a compelling page-turner. It has all the ingredients of an exciting thriller, especially when there are little children at stake: we want those abusers to be caught. Good review, thank you.

Porter's investigation of Julio's nightmares and Julio's mother's instincts is an intriguing combination in this novel. Thank you for your review.

An interesting one. I will be happy to read this book to follow up on the story and nightmares of Julio as well get to know if Porter managed to solve the case, bring the criminals to book and keep his job.

Your survey is very much organized and sagacious, offering a fair point of view on Bad dream Before Mardi Gras. You successfully feature the book's assets, including its emotional plot, connecting with hero, and treatment of delicate subjects. Your investigate of altering mistakes and lacking side plots is fair and helpful. The notice of pointless filler is useful for potential perusers who favor a more engaged story. Your rating avocation and content admonition add validity to your survey. To upgrade lucidity, think about rephrasing "took off one star to due" to "took off one star because of." Generally speaking, this is a smart and very much expressed survey.

I like crime and suspense novels and added this book to my shelves. The plot indeed is heavy when talking about child trafficking, and it already gives me chills to read about high-placed people being involved. I am rooting for Porter that he can bring justice. I wonder if I will perceive the flaws you mentioned in the same way.

This looks like a fine book, and I enjoy a good thriller. However, I have trouble reading books - or watching TV or movies, for that matter - that deal with children in danger and/or child abuse. So this one is not for me. Nevertheless, let me congratulate the author on BOTD.

The book is represented with a great amount of terror and intrigue. I love a great suspense novel so this appears to be a piece to be tackled if one begins to dive in from a quiet and calm mood.

This crime thriller digs into some very dark sides of humanity with the story centered around young Julio. Ramifications involving people who are important in the community make the investigation more complex. It can be a difficult novel to read due to its delicate theme but it seems well-developed and engaging. Thank you for your great review!
Ciao :)

I enjoy murder mysteries and police procedurals, so I look forward to reading this. There are few books in this genre that have a child as a main character, and I find that intriguing.
