The Algorithm Will See You Now by J. L. Lycette paints a picture of healthcare run by AI. Hope Kestrel is a resident in a Seattle hospital that uses an algorithm to sort patients into "responders" and "non-responders." The "non-responders" are those the algorithm has determined will not respond to treatment and are instead sent to hospice care or turned away. This saves resources to treat those who can be cured and doesn't subject those who can not be saved to painful procedures. However, the algorithm does make mistakes, and the hospital's director, Marah Maddox, refuses to let the world become aware of these flaws. When one of Hope's patients suddenly is declared a "non-responder," Maddox makes it clear that Hope is to take the blame, not the algorithm. How will this impact Hope's career? Will the truth be revealed?

The characters in this novel are dynamic. Hope firmly believes in the algorithm because she saw her mother go through brutal cancer treatments that were ineffective. She believes that sparing the patients treatments they will not respond to is of the utmost importance. Her passion for medicine is palpable. I also thought that Jacie was an interesting character. She is a medical intern who is also skilled in computer science. I thought this was a combination that speaks to the intelligence and drive of her character.

The plot also moves along quickly. Though there is ample description, Lycette does not bog down the novel with highly technical details. With a background in medicine, the hospital setting and the algorithm were believable. The extensive AI usage in the book felt like something that could be real.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. From the flawless editing to the terrifying premise, there was nothing that I disliked about it. Anyone interested in reading about the potential of AI in healthcare should read this book. It highlights a terrifying possibility within an engaging novel. If you wish to avoid topics such as cancer and death, then please steer clear. Otherwise, I highly suggest you check out The Algorithm Will See You Now!

J.L. Lycette's The Algorithm Will See You Now is a gripping medical dystopian tale exploring the ethical dilemmas of AI-driven healthcare. Hope Kestrel, a resident at a Seattle hospital, confronts the harsh realities of an algorithm deciding who receives treatment and who is deemed a lost cause. When the algorithm’s flaws come to light, Hope faces a career-threatening ultimatum from hospital director Marah Maddox. Thought-provoking and suspenseful, this story questions the balance between technology and humanity in medicine.

The Algorithm Will See You Now by J.L. Lycette is a gripping science fiction novel that explores the intersection of technology, healthcare, and ethics. Set in a near-future world where artificial intelligence dictates medical care, the story follows a doctor navigating a system dominated by algorithms that prioritize efficiency over human touch. The book raises thought-provoking questions about the role of AI in healthcare, the dehumanization of medicine, and the ethical dilemmas of surrendering critical decisions to machines. It's a compelling read for fans of speculative fiction with a strong moral core.

Algorithms are already use by private insurance companies to decide people's fates, so using an AI would just be an upgrade. Recent news dramatically showed what type of consequences can come from that kind of policy, which makes this novel significant to understand today's American healthcare and what might happen in the future. Thank you for your great review!

Review: The Algorithm Will See You Now by J. L. Lycette brings forth a gripping tale set in a futuristic world where healthcare is driven by artificial intelligence. The protagonist, Hope Kestrel, advocates for the algorithm's ability to determine treatment outcomes, sparing patients from unnecessary suffering. However, the flaws in the system and the hospital's director's unwillingness to address them create a suspenseful narrative. With dynamic characters and a fast-paced plot, this book is an excellent read for those interested in the potential of AI in healthcare. The author's medical background adds credibility to the story, making it feel plausible. I give this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars, as it flawlessly combines thought-provoking themes with an engaging storyline. Gripping suspense, kept me guessing eagerly.

The idea of an AI deciding patient outcomes is intriguing and unsettling, especially with the ethical dilemmas it presents. While I find the premise thought-provoking, I don’t see myself reading this book right now due to its heavy focus on healthcare topics.
