Thank you for the review. The psychological aspect of this crime novel coupled with the development of the characters' backstories and the setting in the decade of 1950 seems like an interesting and effective combo for a story of this genre. Maybe I'll give it an opportunity.

I would definitely be interested to see how this entire book takes place. Mystery is fun to read and figure out with the characters.

I like the idea that the monsters are all the evils that we face. It sounds like an interesting journey for redemption.

A book that deals with the evils that we face sounds amazing! Can't wait to give it a try.

Nice review.

I would love to read this book if I had a chance. I think mental illness still remains widely misunderstood and misdiagnosed for many people today, so it would be great to read about how mental illness was viewed over fifty years ago. I also love how a lot of the writing was inspired by a parent who actually lived with a mental illness in the 1950s, because this can make the story more historically accurate. I think this author should write a memoir of his father next.

I haven’t read a lot of books centered on mental health issues, but I like that the author draws attention to them in this book.

You wrote a very nice review on Monsters in the Hallway. I think it is interesting that the author's dad had spent time in mental institutions, therefore, he had some personal insights into the aspects of how the mentally ill were treated and misunderstood in the 1950's. I like that the book kept you in suspense even when you know who the murderer was and the challenge of gathering enough evidence to convict the murderer.

Great review. I really enjoyed the sample I read and after reading your review, I definitely will be finishing this book. I think it is important to know what happened in mental institutions in the past in order to never let behavior like that exist again. Thanks for your review.

I love crime novels, especially murder mysteries, and this one sounds top notch. I have also always enjoyed psychology, and the look into mental institutions would be particularly appealing to me. Excellent review. I definitely want to check out this book.

I recently have been reading several books that have been set in the 1950's and unfortunately have to deal with the ghastly things we did to patients in the name of medical care. How unfortunate that it took so long for a child to be able to find the killer of his playmate. The review was quite intriguing and gave nothing away which made me want to read it that much more . I am looking forward to it.

As someone who works in the mental health field, I can agree whole heartedly that very commonly people are very misinformed about mental illness. I also like how you stated that it delves into mental health procedures and experiments that were practiced in the past. This has always been interesting to me. what was done back then, would by no means be considered ethical now. this seems like a very interesting book, and I am glad I got a copy for free. I cannot wait to start reading it. Thanks for the review.

This one already hit me with the first line. I was a Boy Scout in the late 80s-early 90s. One year, the troop that stayed 2 sites down from us during summer camp was shaken with sexual abuse allegations. Our troops didn't exactly get along with each other, but that was still messed up.
