I appreciate the fact that you were honest about your ambivalence. Not every book appeals to everyone and I have begun to wonder what does happen when someone doesn't care for one. Would a review be published ? I am still interested in the book and would like to read it for myself.

Thanks for mentioning that the action slows down after the first part. This genre is my favorite to read but I want a fast paced and exciting story. The storyline seems good though especially the setting.

I just read this and I do agree that the pacing was a little off. It started out quick and ended quick, but a lot in the middle was quite slow. An event towards the end that jump-started the speed of the end came as a bit of a surprise to me. I feel as if this wasn't led up to at all, and it was a shock to the system in a not so great way. Thanks for your insight!

From all the reviews I have read, it seems like the book has a common denominator confusion and boredom in between chapters.

I love this book, people are fun of betraying each other, the book talks a lot about betrayals.

i appreciate consistency in a book and from this review that seems to be lacking. it would have been awesome if the author was able to successfully tie in the gaps that was noticed. it shows that Max went through a lot and i would have loved to see his story to the end but i don't think this is for me. thanks for the honest review anyway.

Well done for reading the book twice! I'll read this book simply because of its fascinating setting – the Panama Canal. Besides its been a while since I read a political thriller.

I like thrillers and espionage. This seems like a good story but too bad it's a little slow. Thanks for your review!

I liked the subject of the Panama Canal as hundreds of thousands of Caribbean lives were forever changed during its construction, and that made me wonder if I should read the book. After your review, probably not. I can't stand books that titillate you with action then keep you hanging, expecting more... Such a shame. Review appreciated though! Cheers :)
